Do Our Small Gestures Matter?

The other day, I shared on my TikTok and YouTube pages the story of Marilyn, the baddie.

This 94-year-old woman hit my heart in the five minutes we interacted, and I felt so moved by our brief yet impactful exchange.

I used to be such a shy kid. Like, couldn’t-look-you-in-the-eye-while-talking, very quiet kind of shy. Which, knowing me today, you might laugh and find hard to believe. But thanks to being peer-pressured into signing up for drama class in high school, I found expression where a girl like me might least expect it.

Lately, I’ve been asking the question: Was I actually shy to begin with? Or was I silenced by my an aspect of the adults around me and their need for attention, which didn’t allow my personality to fully emerge?

I don’t really know, and maybe I never will. That's ok.

All I know is that I love the vocal and expressive version of me that I’ve become.

No stranger is really a stranger to me. I love connecting with humans on a regular basis, often evoking a playful (and knowing) eye-roll or two from those close to me. A classic: “There she goes again, yakking it up with someone.”

But don’t get me wrong. I recharge in silence and do quite well with alone time.

Like this very moment: I’m typing this in the stillness of my home, letting my creativity flow in the peace I need to connect with my guides and the divine.

I’m witnessing the power of person-to-person contact more and more as the world gets more chaotic. I also see it in my elderly mom who, for many reasons I won’t dive into here, has limited her contact with the world around her, leaving a huge, lonely lump in her throat.

We all need connection at some point, no matter how extroverted or introverted we are.

To think we’re void of making a difference in this world? That’s so far from the truth.

We have the power to help someone recover from deep loneliness or blahness through just five minutes, a hello, a compliment, or a small offering.

In the week ahead, as we move through Mercury Retrograde in Leo, the New Moon in Leo, and Leo Season itself, I invite you to call upon the imagery of the Sun.

The Sun and Leo go hand in hand, offering nature’s spotlight for warmth, vitality, and empowered self-expression

Change doesn’t have to happen in large ways. You don't have to be like Leo the Lion and roar it out. A small meow will do.   The tiny yet largely impactful steps we take through our interactions can create beautiful and shining impact.

So I’ll leave you with this:

Who can you connect with this week?
How can you step out of your comfort zone?

As the world spins a little louder, your quiet gestures still matter. You don’t have to change the world, just change a moment. That’s where the healing begins.
